a few projects on the go.

I didn’t know the creative, crafty part of my brain existed until about eighteen months ago. My first creative outlet was crocheting. I was interestingly enough, inspired by a patient who was crocheting a granny square blanket at work one night. I began simply with one crochet hook, a ball of pink wool and my good friend YouTube.com. From here I learnt the basic stitches of crochet and have since completed a few small projects. Pictured below is my current crochet project. My mum found the pattern on Pinterest and you can find it here. From memory my blanket is two hundred and fifty stitches wide vs the patterns one hundred seventy, only so it can fit across my queen sized bed. The wool I have gathered over time and I have loved adding the different colours as it has grown. I think it’s about half way finished which has taken about 9 months (slow I know!) but I tend to get distracted with new and exciting craft projects and at times it will lay untouched for weeks. The blanket is currently sitting on the end of my bed and I look at it with pride everyday. I can’t wait until it’s finished!

My second craft project is this beautiful cross stitch. I bought the pattern for a couple of dollars from one of my favourite bloggers Alicia Paulson. In the past, I had completed a few cross stitches that were all done on Aida cloth, however this particular cross stitch was designed to be made on linen. I was hesitant about this at first but after a few frustrating moments in the beginning, I really got the hang of it. I also underestimated the time it would take to complete each small picture and letter, so once again it has taken a while to get this far. I am looking forward to the end result so I can frame and hang it in my bedroom.

My third (and least completed) project is my quilt. I have never attempted a quilt before so this is a bit of an experiment for me.  Mum and I have been gathering old sheets and material from op shops and a couple of beautiful fat quarters from spotlight (when they are on special of course!) to probably have enough to make a decent size quilt. I have cut out a few dozen squares but am still struggling with getting the hang of it. But I suppose they say that practice makes perfect so I might get my cutting board and rotary cutter out again soon! My mum is currently making a beautiful hexi quilt too so I will make sure to show you all some pictures of that in the future.

Talking about having a few projects on the go, I am super excited about having pre-ordered my second cross stitch from Alicia Paulson! The kit comes with everything you need including the linen and thread. The pattern is so sweet and reminds me of Christmas. As some of you may already know (and the rest of you will find out in time), I LOVE everything Christmas so I just couldn’t resist this one. It will hopefully arrive mid to later November….. so I better get cracking on my current one!

  2. Love all your projects Hannah, looking forward to seeing them all completed. I started a quilt when I was pregnant with my first child 27 years ago, still haven’t finished it, maybe you will inspire me to get it done.
